JESUIT DALLAS COLLEGE PREPARATORY – ST. IGNATIUS OF LOYOLA CHAPEL
Jesuit Dallas engaged Studio io during the Construction Administration process of a major new facilities addition with a request to redesign a chapel interior for a structure that already had its exterior concrete walls poured. Initially designed to complement the original 1978 campus, the chapel required a sensitive interior treatment to provide a cohesive aesthetic simultaneously to an inspiring and fitting setting for Catholic worship and devotional prayer. The team approached scope similarly to a renovation, given the existing conditions, and included a revised approach to flooring, lighting, seating, and design of liturgical furnishings that incorporate rich mosaics. Studio io worked closely with HKS Architects to complete the changes, including collaboration with Granda (furnishings and statuary), Heritage Liturgical (mosaics), and New Holland seating.
“Studio io helped design the interior space for our new chapel here at Jesuit Dallas. I was impressed with their breadth of knowledge of church architecture while at the same time catering this knowledge to our specific needs and artistic vision of our chapel. They were easy to work with in terms of their quick turnaround of ideas and creativity of solving design questions for our unique space. They brought their own vision and ideas into the conversation that, both listened to our hopes and desires, while also offering their professional guidance on what is possible or beautiful in our fixed space. This helped us land on a final product that would raise the heart and mind to God for those that came to pray in the space. Studio Io has the liturgical knowledge and sensibility along with the technical talent and relationships in the world of artists to bring your church design to life in a way that will inspire generations to prayer and worship in a Christ–centered place.”
