Other Work

In addition to liturgical work, we also regularly assist with the planning of ministry facilities that support the function of campus ministries, parishes, and other entities. The non-sacred projects we have been involved with include parish halls, student centers, parish offices and rectories, schools, retreat centers, grottos and shrines, and more. While many times combined or related to projects with sacred buildings, we assess our involvement with these project types on a case by case basis.

ST. MARY’S CATHOLIC CENTER

A roughly 20,000 square foot expansion of a 1998 student center, including several thousand square feet of renovation, now serves what is one of the largest campus ministries and producers of vocations in the country. The addition designed by Jackson Galloway Architects features an additional 2-story administration and education/meeting component and a new Event Center that ties in with an existing kitchen. Substantial modifications to existing circulation were required, including the repurposing of an existing meeting room into a new central lobby. An existing courtyard required complete excavation for expansive soils, affording the opportunity for a new Marian grotto as its centerpiece. While previously with JGA, Studio io principal Michael Raia served as lead designer and project manager, and upon his departure in 2018 to found Studio io thereafter continued project management in a partnership with JGA during construction. Additional liturgical design and consulting services included the planning of the prayer courtyard, procurement of the new Marian statue, and the commission of a new cast bronze relief of Pope St. John Paul II.
